The US Embassy in Banjul, in collaboration with the Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA) and the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment will today officially launch the Gambia AGOA Resource Centre.

The launching ceremony will be held at the American Corner within the Comium Building along Kairaba Avenue. The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) has been designed to encourage increased trade and investment-related opportunities between the United States and eligible countries within Africa as a means of promoting sustainable economic growth and the pace of overall development in Africa and the globe at large.

The first AGOA Resource Centre in The Gambia will play a pivotal role in providing technical assistance to companies in the areas of screening export ready companies, providing targeted industry-specific and market regulatory information, assisting with preparations for international tradeshows, and facilitating both local and international investor visits among others.

A dispatch sent to the Daily Observer from the office of the Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA) stated among other things, the importance of African private sector and its role in the overall economic development of the region.

It further noted that the resource centre will also work with various public and private sector stakeholders to implement strategic policies meant to promote value-chain development in sectors that have the highest potentials for export.

The opening ceremony is expected to be presided over by Abdou Kolley, the minister for Trade, Employment & Regional Integration alongside Ambassador Pamela Ann White and other senior government and private sector officials.
