Bamako, Mali - The US and Mali have signed four financing agreements to the tune of 28 billion CFA francs for sustainable development and the fight against poverty in the African country, PANA learnt Monday from the Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The first agreement, for 12.5 billion CFA francs, will enhance the increase in the use of high-impact services in reproductive health and child survival through the establishment of an appropriate political environment.

Improving the quality of high-impact health services and their access by the people constitute the second phase of this agreement.

The second agreement, for 3.4 billion CFA francs, is intended to improve the quality of primary education and to adapt it to the Malian context, as well as the teacher training. It will also finance the development and implementation of new school curricula.

The third agreement, amounting to 3.03 billion CFA francs, enhances, among other things, an effective partnership between the government, the civil society, the private sector and the local communities to achieve sustainable development.

Mali was elected to benefit from the US Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) for the challenge of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA), at the initiative of the American president, Barack Obama.
