Cameroon: Businessmen Seek Government's AGOA Assistance
Francophone and Lusophone African countries are mobilising to reap the maximum trade benefits offered by the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) that sets out to facilitate the sell of African products in American markets. In order to realise the objective, Francophone and Lusophone African countries after observing that they did benefit from the business opportunities offered by the US, in 2004 created a network called "AGOA-net".
Members of the delegation of AGOA-net yesterday held talks with Prime Minister Ephraim Inoni during an audience at the Star Building. The organisation is made up of 17 Francophone countries and 5 Lusophone countries.
The eight-member delegation headed by Soppo Ngalle came to inform the government that they will organise a round table conference in Cameroon from October 9 to 13, 2006. Mrs Soppo Ngalle told journalists that the round table conference will focus on the strategies of industrial development in Africa South of the Sahara.
She revealed that they intend to invite the former US President, Bill Clinton, one of the key signatories of AGOA to the occasion and the Cameroon government's support and contribution were indispensable. According to Soppo Ngalle, AGOA net is an international lobby organisation with the aim of enabling member countries to reap benefits offered by the act . As such, she stated that the government's partnership was imperative as they merely constit ute the civil society.
