Mozambicans eager to do business with Swazis

Mozambicans are ready to do joint ventures with Swazi businesspeople in different sectors.

Investment Promotion Centre (CPI) Coordinator of Information and Marketing Nuno Maposse said Swazis must, therefore, discuss with their counterparts in Mozambique to forge partnerships.

He said areas where joint ventures were possible would be energy, agriculture, trade and others. Maposse said besides the joint ventures, Swazis could also export a number of products to Mozambique and these would be sugar, poultry, fruits and vegetables, among others.

He was speaking during a business seminar held in Mozambique, where about 48 members of the Federation of Swazi Business Community (FESBC) attended.

The event was organised by CPI in collaboration with the Swaziland Investment Promotion Authority (SIPA). CPI is SIPA’s counterpart in Mozambique.

“There is a vast market here and businesses to supply products must bear in mind that we have a population of 23 million. There are many gains associated with selling to us, so please find businesspeople to do joint ventures with us,” he said.

Maposse said putting Swazi businesses in Mozambique would allow the entrepreneurs to also access markets in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) and others.

He said it was high time Swaziland found a way to be amongst the top 10 investors in Mozambique as it had an advantage of being closer than most of the foreign direct investment (FDI) companies benefiting from the Mozambican market.

Maposse said the top 10 investors last year were Portugal, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Egypt, Indian and others. He said Mozambique boasted of a stable investment legislation.

“Investors are also guaranteed that they will be protected against property expropriation and we are non-discriminatory in treatment between foreign and domestic investors. Our country is one of the most attractive economies in Africa for foreign direct investment,” he said.
