"FACILITATING EFFICIENT TRANSPORTATION AND TRADE IN SUPPORT OF THE US - AFRICA TRADE RELATIONSHIP" is the theme of the upcoming AGOA transportation forum to be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from 13-16 April 2008.

The purpose of this forum is to focus a wide range of public and private sector expertise on factors critical to the development of a safe and efficient transportation system for Africa, capable of supporting the region’s continued development and integration within the global economy. This Forum is being held under the umbrella of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) which significantly enhances U.S. market access for 39 Sub-Saharan African countries. The Forum will build upon ongoing efforts under President Bush’s Africa program, the Department of Transportation’s Initiative and Partnership with Africa, and existing regional and sub-regional initiatives on the continent.

The forum’s agenda is designed to provide comprehensive coverage of the transportation issues facing the continent and focus attention on key transport infrastructure projects where innovative financing arrangements, intergovernmental programs and public-private partnerships will be most efficacious in supporting regional integration and trade. Through the opening plenary and several keynote addresses forum participants will hear first-hand accounts of the status of Africa’s transportation systems, the key policy issues involved in addressing the continent’s needs and the potential resources available to public and private sector entities. Concurrent modal and regional sessions will focus the conference agenda on specific regional and sub-regional issues involved in prioritizing projects for reducing costs and improving safety and security.

This forum will underscore the importance of AGOA by focusing upon both conceptual and planned transportation and trade networks in Sub-Saharan Africa that will significantly enhance U.S. market access to the region.

Dozens of invited Speakers and Panelists will participate in this forum, representing key supporting organizations that include:
