Uganda: Muhwezi Advises Farmers On Agoa
Farmers and businessmen targeting the African Growth Opportunity Act (Agoa) market in America have been asked to produce products which are environment friendly because they fetch a higher price.
Ms Suzan Muhwezi, a senior Presidential Adviser on Agoa, said this while addressing Rukungiri district leaders, businessmen and farmers at the Council Hall on Saturday.
She said the Agoa programme has been extended from 2008 to 2015 and urged the Ugandan business community to utilise the opportunity and improve their incomes.
"Environment friendly products like honey can fetch more than 25 percent above other products whose environmental impact is not known, " Muhwezi told the participants.
She asked the farmers to produce standardised products whose quality can be accepted on the American market and which can be sustained.
She asked the people not to mix politics with developmental issues because Agoa is a united front regardless of political inclination.
"I m ready to work with people of different political opinions as long as their vision is to promote trade between Uganda and the US," Muhwezi said.
